Falansai (“fuh-lan-sigh”) is a Vietnamese-Mexican restaurant by Vietnamese-Mexican chef Eric Tran :). Located in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn, we are all about feeding the world delicious foods from Northeast American ingredients, that challenge the traditional ideas of what constitutes “American” cuisine.
Falansai was established in 2013, and reimagined in 2020. Henry Trieu originally opened Falansai in 2003 and named the restaurant for his father’s pronunciation of the word “français.” His father was a Chinese immigrant to Vietnam who grew up under French occupation. Henry closed the restaurant in early 2020 and sold it to Chef Eric Tran later that year to fulfill his desire of keeping the restaurant open as a Vietnamese culinary destination.
Falansai “2.0” was reimagined in November of 2020 and reflects the cooking of Eric Tran’s cultural background. As a Vietnamese-Mexican and American from Chi-Town (and now New Yorker), diners can expect the unexpected from Eric’s cooking. There is nothing “traditional” about his cuisine, but it is 110% authentic cooking from Eric’s heart & soul.
We have put a lot of thought into pairing seasonal sourcing with local purveyors. We practice whole animal butchery. From smoked & grilled meats, to house-made charcuterie, to fresh & cured sausages, we highlight the entire animal in a multitude of ways.
All that being said, we are here to provide you with good vibes and delicious food.
